Building the future of research
Research centers present some of the most demanding construction challenges in the sector. Their technical complexity, the integration of specialized facilities, and the specific needs of research teams require a high level of coordination and precise execution throughout all phases of the project.
In recent years, SEROM has participated in various projects linked to leading institutions in the fields of biomedicine, oncology, and precision medicine. These projects share a common goal: to create spaces prepared to drive research, innovation, and the scientific advances of the present and future.
Our experience is reflected in projects such as the new Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) building, already completed, or ongoing projects like the Únicas Sant Joan de Déu center, the new Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) building, and the new Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO).
Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR)
SEROM participated in the construction of the new VHIR building, a facility of over 16,000 m² designed to boost biomedical research, innovation, and knowledge transfer.
The project integrates laboratories, innovation spaces, and areas open to the public, responding to the needs of research, advanced therapies, and personalized medicine. SEROM worked on this project alongside CALAF Constructora and Agefred, providing management, coordination, and execution capacity for a project with high technical requirements.
Únicas Sant Joan de Déu
We are participating in the construction of Únicas SJD, a specialized center dedicated to the care, research, and treatment of pediatric rare diseases.
The building, spanning over 12,000 m², integrates outpatient clinics, laboratories, research areas, and support services. The project is designed to facilitate the connection between clinical and research teams and promote the transfer of scientific knowledge to clinical practice, making it one of the three largest centers in the world dedicated to these pathologies.
Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB)
We are also participating in the future PRBB Ciutadella, a new facility that will be part of the Ciutadella del Coneixement (Knowledge Citadel) ecosystem and is conceived as a leading hub for biomedical research and precision medicine.
The project will bring together nearly 950 researchers and will foster collaboration between different centers and scientific disciplines. The complexity of the work requires precise coordination between architecture, structure, facilities, and the various stakeholders involved in the project.
Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)
We are working on the expansion and renovation of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) laboratories, a project of over 18,000 m² that expands the existing building and creates new spaces for advanced health research.
The project incorporates new laboratories, collaborative workspaces, administrative offices, and common areas, and is committed to creating healthier work environments through the incorporation of natural materials, vegetation, and spaces oriented toward the well-being of professionals.
Experience at the service of research
These projects reflect our capacity and experience in constructing highly specialized environments in a sector that constantly presents new challenges. Through our work, we contribute to its development, putting our expertise at the service of the spaces where biomedical research becomes possible.
Bringing these spaces to life also means, from a construction standpoint, supporting research that generates knowledge, drives medical advances, and has a direct impact on society. Being part of this process is a responsibility that SEROM assumes with pride.
