Expansion of Hospital del Mar that significantly increases healthcare capacity in Barcelona

This project expands the built area of the center with a new building adding nearly 22,500 m² and incorporates a structure integrated with the existing hospital, respecting its identity and strengthening connectivity between key areas.

The expansion includes the unification and modernization of the emergency department, which doubles its surface area, as well as the creation of new maternal and child care areas, neonatology units, a new intensive care unit, and advanced spaces for ophthalmology and pharmacy. Hospitalization units are also being expanded and equipped with new operating rooms and support areas, improving operational efficiency and patient care capacity.

The project considers sustainability criteria, incorporating energy-efficient elements and environmental management to reduce the impact of the new building. These new infrastructures will make it possible to attend to a significantly greater number of patients with quality and comfort, reinforcing Hospital del Mar as a reference facility for assistance, health, and research in the city.
